It was time for a new back tire, and I decided to put my tax return money to good use, and get my rims powder coated while the bike was in the shop. After 3 years of road wear I just couldn't keep the bare aluminum looking good anymore, and I wanted to prevent the eventual damage that would naturally occur. What I thought would take a week at the shop turned into 5 due to several snafus including having to completely redo them after the first attempt from what I was told, but the final result came out great. My apologies for the bad cell phone pictures.

I had a silver bird like yours and was going to do something similar but I bought a storm instead. Came with black wheels. Urs looks cool bro!

Ok here are a couple pics of the entire bike. I managed to get rid of that horrible purple tint as well. I used a different app on the phone to take these shots. I can't figure out what I pressed in the other camera app to screw up the tint like that.

The powder coating was $300 (US dollars), but there were some bearings and seals that had to be replaced as a result of pulling them out of the wheels. I was told this would need to be done up front so it wasn't a surprise. Those parts were $200. Labor $196. So total cost with the tax to powder coat a set of wheels is roughly $700. I also replaced the back tire. The tire + wheel weights, and valve stems was $217. In the end the total job with tax was $995.

The bottom line it wasn't cheap, but well worth it after seeing the end result. I waited to do it until it was time to change the back tire. I figure that saved some labor since I would have had to pay that anyway.

Thanks for the pic's...
I've been contemplating getting the outer rim of my black storm wheels polished. Looking to break up the black on black wheel and tyre. I got quoted $300 - $400 a while ago, but wasn't sure what it would come up like.
Think i'll re-visit the polisher

Thanks. Ron does nice work. He's an old timer that is well known in the area for his seats. His process involves the rider in the making of the seat. He roughs out the basic shape, and then you go riding on the foam with no cover yet. You give him feedback, and he makes adjustments. This process is repeated until you think you are happy with it. At one point I was riding around for a few days on a chunk of foam. It was quite the ridiculous looking sight. Once you are satisfied with it he then makes the final cover, and the seat is complete. The end result is a seat custom made to fit your butt.

You probably already know this and considered it when you did the powder coating, but that design goes very well with your paint scheme. Sometimes carrying a design element over in to some other parts can make it all seem overdone, but not in this case. Very nice.

Thanks, yes I did carefully consider whether or not it was going to seem overdone. There were several options I was contemplating. Originally I was going to have the outer section left in the original metal, but covered in clear powder coat, with the black in the middle like it now is. The powder coat shop was concerned that the clear wouldn't stick as the surface wouldn't be rough enough. Changing from that to the silver edge instead seemed risky for as you said it may seem overdone, but since my first choice was out I went for it. I suppose I could have left the outside with no coating at all, but the whole idea of this project was to make the wheels easier to clean. The third option I considered was to go with a single color like a gunmetal gray, but the two tone seemed more appealing, and I'm glad that I went that route.
